How to Migrate Your Email to Fastmail

This guide walks you through creating an application-specific password in Fastmail and using it to migrate your existing email account safely and securely.

Step-by-Step Fastmail Email Migration

  1. Open Fastmail Settings.
    Once you are logged into Fastmail, navigate to your Settings.
  2. Go to Migration.
    From the Settings menu, click Migration.
  3. Open App & Setup Guides.
    Select App and Setup Guides, then click Other.
  4. Select Windows 10 Mail.
    Choose Windows 10 Mail from the list and click Next through the setup screens.
  5. Generate an Application Password.
    Fastmail will generate an alternate, application-specific password for use during migration.
  6. Open the migration link.

    Enter your email address in the required fields.
  7. Paste the application password.
    Paste the Fastmail application password into the appropriate field.
  8. Enter the new password.
    On the teal-colored section of the screen, enter the new password that was sent to you.
  9. Confirm server settings.
    Enter the server settings for your old email provider. These will now point to the new Fastmail server.

Important:
The only credential you truly need for this process is the application-specific password. This keeps your main account password secure.

Tip:

Security Note:
Even if passwords appeared briefly in the video, they are no longer accessible. Application passwords can be revoked at any time once migration is complete.

After Migration Is Complete

Once everything is working, access to application passwords can be revoked for additional security. This ensures no unused credentials remain active.
